2017. THE RED THREAD - HAMMOND PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL
Students in Years One through Six each designed a mixed media piece of art which ‘told their story’. It combined elements showing their cultural heritage, local community heritage and themselves as an individual. The art was stretched onto an embroidery hoop and combined painting, printing making and needlework. Our theme ‘the red thread’ was based on the Chinese proverb that a red thread joins people who are destined to meet.

2015. AIR RESIDENCY - CHALLIS PRIMARY SCHOOL
Sam was an Artist in Residence with Sean Avery at Challis ECEC. We recieved an AIR grant and spent a magnificent term making a book with all of the Year Two students in the school. The final book "Pirates and Cacti and Monsters Oh My!" is amazing, but it is every experience that went into making it that made this such an incredible project for me. Every story, sketch, painting, puppet and idea created along the way was a positive experience for the students - allowing them to explore their creativity and feel a real sense of pride and achievement from making and creating. We all – children, staff and artists – learnt so much and had a wonderful time exploring illustration techniques and creative writing processes together. You can read the report on the AIR programme at their website. A summary of our project is here.

2016. CITY OF WANNEROO - COW PARADE & LOST WORLD GARDEN
Sam worked with families at Wanneroo Library to create a garden installation using recycled materials. Children explored painting and sculptural techniques to create abstract paintings on perspex, 3D flowers and a unicorn!
Later in the year Sam worked with students from St Anthony's Primary School to create a technicolour abstract cow. The children designed patterns inspired by the journey of milk from the farm to the table.
